Stage 1 - Kiel to Weissenhäuser Strand

This morning we set off for a destination that many of you will surely be familiar with. Philipp, for example, was here for his 10th-grade graduation trip. It was a wonderful time. Weissenhäuser Strand is one of the most popular holiday destinations on the Baltic Sea and offers a beautiful, long sandy beach. Due to the peak season, when it's naturally very busy, we're not allowed to sleep here for free, but we are supported with free meals this evening and breakfast the next morning. Many thanks to the holiday park for making this possible.

Shortly after setting off, we checked the tire pressure on Linda's rear wheel again. Nothing major was wrong; everything seemed to be fine. After 11 kilometers, we made it out of the city and left Kiel. In Mönkeberg, we had our first beautiful view of the water. After 20 kilometers, we reached Laboe, where we made a quick stop to photograph the U995 submarine, which serves as a technical museum. We soon noticed that the tire pressure was dropping again. This time, however, much faster. For this reason, we looked on the map for the nearest bike shop so we could have the problem professionally assessed. But we were already certain that the tube must be damaged, as the air had gone back down again after less than 5 minutes. We battled our way kilometer after kilometer to California, where we then came across Gnutzmann Bicycle Rental.

The owner greeted us very warmly with a friendly question: "So, what's wrong?" We explained our problem. This time, however, the tube did indeed have a hole, and the culprit was hidden in the tire: a small piece of a shell. Since we were planning to change the tire soon anyway, as the tread was already pretty worn, we took the opportunity to swap it. They helped us for a good price, and now we can hopefully make progress without any problems. Shortly after California, we reached Brazil. Perhaps some readers are wondering if Philipp drank too much of his favorite tour liqueur while writing this, but they're wrong; those are really the names of the two places here.

A little later, we had a small snack as a reward. Since we're already at the seaside, a fish sandwich is a must. Okay, Linda stayed strong and ate a baked potato with salad, which was also excellent.

Twenty kilometers later, we reached our destination for the day and used the afternoon to cool off in the Baltic Sea. Uwe and Philipp also made use of the swings built into the water. Great idea!

We are looking forward to tomorrow's stage in a beautiful hotel in the town of Grömitz.
