Stage 5 - Tangermünde to Magdeburg - 71 km
Today's day started off very differently for us. Yesterday evening, we were already on the tower of St. Stephan's Church in Tangermünde, and yesterday evening, the idea of enjoying the sunrise from the church tower came to mind. We put this idea into action this morning, and what can we say: As strenuous as the climb was at this time of night, it was definitely worth it. Since we were already up early, we had an early breakfast and were able to set off for Magdeburg early today. After all, a very hot day awaited us today, so our priority was to arrive in Magdeburg as early as possible.
The first destination for the leg of the route was the Rogätz ferry, which we reached quickly. After the crossing, the Elbe Cycle Path was suddenly closed. However, we took a risk and ignored the barrier, and luckily we were able to continue along the path as usual. Otherwise, it would have cost us several kilometers of detour.
Then it wasn't long before we reached the Magdeburg waterway junction, shortly after passing through the Hohenwarte lock.
A little later, we were already on the last 15 kilometers, which stretched out over the fields, and we were sizzling in the midday sun. Reason enough for us to stop at the first beer garden in Magdeburg for an ice cream and a cold drink.
We've been to Magdeburg several times before and are delighted that General Manager Christian Graßhoff once again supported us with an overnight stay at his Ibis Styles hotel. We were also delighted that Dr. Clemens from the Hoflieferant restaurant once again supported us with catering.
