Stage 6 - Magdeburg to Bernburg - 67.7 km
After our breakfast at the cyclist-friendly Hotel Ibis Styles Magdeburg, it was time for us to cycle the first part of the Elbe Cycle Path to the town of Barby.
We reached the town of Schönebeck that morning and passed the famous salt flower. Immediately afterward, we drove past the longest inhabited half-timbered house in Europe.
From Barby, a completely new cycle path awaited us today: the Saale Cycle Path. We hadn't cycled this path before on our favorite tour.
There was another barrier along the way, and it was worth ignoring it and taking a risk. This saved us a small detour.
After cycling for several more kilometers, we reached the town of Nienburg an der Saale. There we saw the confluence of the Bode and Saale rivers. The Consul General of Guatemala and honorary citizen of Nienburg, Adolfo von Meyer, presented his hometown of Nienburg with a carillon in 1928. This carillon still rings today, playing a different melody every hour. Tomorrow we will post a short video with a sample of the music. We couldn't resist the opportunity to experience this spectacle.
When we reached our destination for today, Bernburg, Philipp only had to take a quick shower, change, and head straight to the nearby St. Mary's Church. He was scheduled to play the Röver organ there, delighting the churchgoer and guests. A recording of this will be available on our YouTube channel tomorrow.
Today we extend our heartfelt thanks to:
