Stage 3 - Grömitz to Travemünde
Today's plan included a 48-kilometer ride to our next destination, Travemünde. Before we set off, Philipp took another ride on his pedal-pedal car around the hotel grounds in Grömitz. Before breakfast, Philipp indulged in one of his favorite pastimes: petting a cat. The beautiful view of the Baltic Sea was a constant companion today, whether on the outskirts of Grömitz or in the next town, Rettin.
Since we weren't under any pressure today, we took the opportunity to take a break or two with a wonderful view. A few towns further on, we had a view of the naval port of Neustadt in Holstein. Our next stop was Uwe's cousin Jörg, who welcomed us with a second breakfast of Franzbrötchen (traditional German rolls) and coffee. Many thanks for this refreshment. The route took us along a well-maintained cycle path through Niendorf and Timmendorfer Strand. We were particularly impressed by the cycle path directly along the coast. Here we had a wonderful view of the sea. This also has a truly meditative effect. Near Herrmannshöhe is just one example. In Travemünde, we headed straight for the Niederegger Marzipan Café so that Uwe and Philipp could indulge their love of marzipan. We rewarded ourselves with delicious slices of cake, iced chocolate, and marzipan drinks.
At our hotel, we relaxed in the outdoor pool before heading to the Das Köstlich restaurant, which sponsored our meals today. Many thanks to the restaurant manager, Jasmin, for her tremendous support. Tomorrow, the next leg of the journey begins, heading to Wismar.
